“Lick & Chew”
If you’ve spent time with horses, you know that they frequently “lick and chew”. While it’s an action with their mouth that sometimes looks like they’re savoring a candy, it’s more than that. When a horse “licks and chews” it’s because, among other things, they are shifting from a more activated, processing, or working state, to one of relaxation and integration.
The human equivalent might be when we’re taking in a lot of information or have had an intense conversation or been physically active and then we slow it all down, take some deep breaths, and reflect in some way on what we just did or thought or learned. In short, we’re moving ourselves from a more activated state to one of thought, contemplation, and processing or integration.
I’ve titled this BLOG post page “Lick & Chew” because I plan to post about things that I’ve come to realize or process or ponder in my work with horses and as a coach. They’re thoughts and ideas that I’ve written down as a way to integrate connections I’m experiencing in my life. This is a place where I hope you’ll find inspiration to ponder the connections you’re making as well.
